Symbol of Unity

Rangoli is a popular form of decoration that brings life to our homes during the festival season. India is known for its widespread variety of harvest festivals. Sankranti is celebrated in various ways throughout northern India, including kite flying in Gujarat and parts of Rajasthan, haldi kumkum in Maharashtra.

Bihu marks the beginning of the new year in Assam with the arrival of seeding time. In Punjab this festival is celebrated to mark the end of the winter solstice in their harvested fields as Lohri. Pongal is a harvest festival in southern India celebrated in Tamil Nadu. It is a festival to thank the Sun God, mother nature, and the various farm animals who help to produce a bountiful harvest. Onam is also a harvest festival celebrated in Kerala.

This year's Pongal celebration in Hiranandani included a rangoli competition with the theme 'Harvest festivals of India' . We residents of Brentwood A block 25th floor, Vrushali, Manasa and Manju attempted to incorporate all of these in our Rangoli. Overall our rangoli emphasized on the significance of harvest festivals and won the first place in the competition.

We also make a rangoli in our lobby as we reside in the same floor. This practice is being followed from the time we all came together since 7 years. Every year during Pongal, we dedicate our time and express our passion to make a rangoli in our lobby to celebrate this harvest festival. This symbolizes Unity in Diversity, as all three of us are from different states in a way to bring the neighbourhood together. This year we have made this 3D mandala rangoli in our lobby.
