My Trip to Kaziranga National Park
My Trip to Kaziranga National Park
Early December, last year I visited Kaziranga National Park. Visiting Kaziranga was in my bucket list of wildlife sanctuaries to be visited, for long. Kaziranga National Park is situated in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of the state of Assam. This park, which hosts two-thirds of the world's Indian rhinoceroses, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Kaziranga National Park was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2006, tiger sighting is very rare in this park , I was very lucky to sight a Great Bengal Tiger having a face-off with the gentle beast of Kaziranga , The Indian Rhino. The park is home to large breeding populations of elephants, wild water buffaloes, and swamp deer. Kaziranga is also recognized as an important bird area and I was fortunate enough to sight rare raptors.
Kaziranga is a vast expanse of tall elephant grass, marshland, and dense tropical moist broadleaf forests, criss-crossed by four major rivers, including the mighty Brahmaputra. The park includes numerous small bodies of water that houses many wonderful water creatures like the Indian Otter very shy to spot and the Bengal Monitor Lizard.
I was in Kaziranga for three days and visited all the ranges, with an experienced guide and was lucky to sight the best wildlife this jungle had to offer. If you get an opportunity to visit this national park, do not miss it. It is nature at its best.
